Pork Carnitas

These pork carnitas are tender, juicy, and packed with deep, savory flavor. Slowly cooked until perfectly succulent and finished with crispy edges, they’re rich without being heavy. Perfect for tacos, bowls, or sharing family-style, this is a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish you’ll come back to again and again.

Pork Carnitas

Ingredients

3 pounds Boneless Pork Butt


8 cloves Garlic, peeled

1/4 cup Avocado Oil

1 Orange, juiced PLUS rind sliced into thin strips

1 tablespoon Salt

1 teaspoon Pepper

3 - 4 Bay Leaves

1 teaspoon Cumin

1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

1/4 generous teaspoon Chinese 5 Spice

Instructions

Cut the pork into 1 1/2 - 2 inch cubes and place in a bowl.

Add the rest of the ingredients and stir to coat the meat.


COOKING OPTIONS:

Slow Cooker: Cook on low for 3 1/2 hours.

Oven: Place in a 9 by 13 and cover tightly with foil.

Bake at 275F/135C for 3 1/2 hours.


Remove and discard the bay leaves and the orange peels.

Roughly chop the meat and return to the liquid to serve.


OPTIONAL:

The chopped meat, drizzled with some of the juices, can be crisped up under the broiler for 3 minutes.

Next stir and drizzle with more juices, and continue to broil for another 4 - 5 minutes.

Mix with any remaining juices and serve.
